MAKE Wellness LEAN ingredients and function
I have been talking a lot on Social Media and even written here about the MAKE Welness FIT product that I have been taking since February with great results! My family has been commenting on how much muscle I have built so far this year. Just today I accidentally broke a popsicle stick when trying to remove a popscicle from the mold. My oldest said "Mom, you are just too muscley!" For just turning 40 and the usual muscle loss that accompanies aging, I am very excited for this result!
I wanted to take some time to also give you a brief overview of another MAKE Wellness peptide product called "LEAN". I have only taken this supplement once. It is not something that I feel that I need, but it is very popular and may be a need for my audience, so I wanted to dive into it for you.
Product Claims from the MAKE Wellness website
Here are the claims that MAKE Wellness makes about this product. Now, let's look into the ingredients and see which ones support these claims.
Supplement Facts from the MAKE Wellness Website
Let's start with the ingredient Saccharomyces cerevisiae Peptide Hydrolysate. This is a Peptide derived from Brewer's Yeast.
A study by Jung, et al. that looked at yeast hydrolysate's effects on body weight and abdominal fat concluded that "Yeast hydrolysate can reduce body weight and the accumulation of abdominal fat without an adverse effect on lean body mass in obese adults, regardless of sex, via the reduction of energy intake."
The study looked at men and women between the ages of 20 and 50 years for 10 weeks. The group taking the yeast hydrolysate ate less and reduced their body weight and their abdominal fat to a statistically significant amount over the group that took a placebo.
Another study done by Jung, et al. titled “Low Dose Yeast Hydrolysate in Treatment of Obesity and Weight Loss” concluded that “low dose YH supplementation (0.5 g/d) may induce a reductions in weight and body fat in obese women via the reduction of calorie intake.” They looked at 30 obese women over a period of 8 weeks. They found that those who supplemented with Yeast Hydrolysate (YH), wanted to eat less, thought about eating less, had less of an appetite for sweets and effectively reduced their caloric intake over the 8 weeks compared to those in the control group. The women who supplemented with Yeast Hydrolysate lost more body fat than the control group.
If we look at the next 4 ingredients in the list, we see that they are all fruit/citrus extracts. A study done by Dallas, et al took 20 overweight volunteers and supplemented 10 of them with a blend of citrus extracts for 12 weeks. Over those 12 weeks, body fat percentage and body weight of those supplemented decreased significantly over the control group. They concluded that it “may serve to prevent obesity by decreasing BMI.”
The next ingredient in the list is L-Carnitine. L-Carnitine is an amino acid that our body makes on its own, but is also widely supplemented. WebMD states that “Taking L-carnitine by mouth or by IV can improve cholesterol and triglyceride levels”. MAKE Wellness included it in this LEAN supplement in order to increase fatty acid uptake into mitochondria. Why? So that our bodies can use the fat being broken down as fuel!
The last Ingredient in the list is Coenzyme Q10. Many of you may have heard of COQ10 before. It is an enzyme that the body makes naturally. It helps with energy production inside of cells. It has been widely supplemented for many years. MAKE Wellness includes it in their LEAN product to enhance mitochondrial function.
In conclusion, LEAN contains a combination of peptides, polyphenols, antioxidants, amino acids and enzymes that work synergistically to help your body release stored fat, increase cellular uptake of those released fatty acids and increase the production of energy using those fatty acids. This process helps you to reduce cravings, lose body fat and reduce your visceral (or belly) fat.
